Our doctors make every effort to administer local anesthetics (Novocaine) in a slow, gentle and comfortable manner, eliminating any discomfort that may accompany dental treatment. In addition, the doctors use a topical anesthetic or “gel” that numbs the area prior to the injection.
The duration of numbness after treatment varies from patient to patient and depends on what drug was used. Generally, the numbness wears off after two to three hours. Parents must be careful to watch their child afterward so he or she doesn’t accidentally chew or bite the inner cheeks or tongue while the numbness wears off.
